Don’t Get Caught in the “I’ll Be Happy When” Trap

It’s easy to do… Get so fixated on the things we want and need to have a higher quality of life that we start to believe we can’t be happy until we achieve certain milestones.

I’ll be happy when…

  • I have enough money.

  • I lose this weight.

  • I get that promotion.

But life is today. This is it. And if we stay present, we can find beauty, connection, and inspiration–even amidst our struggles.

Mustering gratitude for the small, daily joys requires a mindset shift. It takes effort and intentionality. But it’s worth it.

Putting off happiness creates a negative spiral of frustration and disconnection, whereas choosing to notice the good stuff lifts our mood and makes us more enjoyable to be around.

Today’s message is short because this concept is self-explanatory. Sometimes we just need a reminder to shorten our focus: Stop looking so far in the future and be mindful of the moments of meaning and joy we are blessed with every single day of our lives.

What’s one moment of happiness you experienced yesterday?
